What HBM Nigeria does

HBM Nigeria Plc, formerly Lafarge Africa Plc, is a Nigerian building solutions company manufacturing and marketing cement, concrete and aggregates, and a member of the Huaxin Building Materials Group of Wuhan, China. The company was founded on 26 February 1959, is headquartered in Lagos, and employs approximately 1,478 people. The transition to HBM Nigeria Plc follows Huaxin's acquisition of Holcim's 83.81% stake in Lafarge Africa in August 2025, in a transaction valued at $1 billion. The rebranding was formally approved at the company's 67th AGM on 30 April 2026. The company's name change marks the fourth in its 67-year history, having previously operated as WAPCO, Lafarge Nigeria, and Lafarge Africa.

It operates four major production plants giving it the widest cement footprint in Nigeria, at Ewekoro and Sagamu in Ogun State, Ashaka in Gombe State and Mfamosing in Cross River State, alongside ready-mix operations in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt. Installed cement production capacity is 10.5 million tonnes per annum. Subsidiaries include AshakaCem Limited, which manufactures and markets cement, and Wapsila Nigeria Limited, whose principal activity is the generation and sale of power. The company has announced capacity expansion plans including a third production line at Calabar and expansions at Ashaka and Sagamu plants.

Group revenue rose to N1.07 trillion from N696.76 billion in 2024, with profit for the year of N273.12 billion against N100.15 billion. Cement sales contributed N1.04 trillion while ready-mix operations contributed N29.97 billion. Operating profit rose to approximately N392 billion from N193 billion in 2024, with gross margin of 57.58%, operating margin of 36.23%, and net margin of 25.61%. Earnings per share surged to N17 from N6.22, with a proposed final dividend of N6 per share.
